    “Endodrome,” a work by Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster

    Endodrome is artist Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster's first work using virtual reality. Through this work, the artist continues her exploration of alternative states of consciousness and interiority. Presented in a staged environment, Endodrome can be experienced by five people at a time. Its theatrical setting evokes the experience of a séance, combining sound, light, and projections of visions that the audience discovers through virtual reality headsets.

    The eight-minute experience begins by immersing the audience in a hypnotic, monochrome environment, before shifting into an abstract visual space composed of fields of bright colors that move to the rhythm of the viewer's gaze and breathing. The work is inspired by the artist's experience of cognitive trance generated by sound, which she shared with musician and author Corine Sombrun, who collaborated with her to design an accompanying soundscape.
